While not all slab leaks are preventable, these measures significantly reduce your risk.

Water pressure management

High water pressure (>80 PSI) stresses pipes. Install a pressure regulator. Have your pressure tested annually. Most BC municipalities deliver at 60-100 PSI — anything above 80 accelerates pipe wear.

Water quality monitoring

Aggressive water chemistry accelerates pipe corrosion. Have your water tested. If pH is below 6.5 or above 8.5, consider a neutralizer or water conditioning.

Annual plumbing inspections

Annual thermal scan of your slab area ($300-$600) catches developing issues. Annual water meter monitoring — check your meter, learn your baseline usage, investigate increases.
